A typical Sunday morning celebration at St. John’s begins at 8:00 am with a Rite I worship service, followed by breakfast in Faith Hall.  After breakfast, we break out into Sunday School classes.  There are classes for children in kindergarten through high school, as well as a young adult class for those between the ages of 19 through 30, a lectionary based study for adults, and a book study.  After Sunday school, we continue the celebration with a Rite II worship service at 10:30 am, the ‘late’ service, during which the children are invited to the front of the church for a children’s sermon.  Refreshments and fellowship, in Faith Hall, follow the 10:30 am service.

We are blessed to have a dedicated group of lay worship leaders during both services.  During the Rite II service, we enjoy an eclectic mix of music from traditional to contemporary and are blessed by a choir and a variety of musicians who make worshiping at this service truly inspirational.  On occasion the children’s and youth choirs participate in the service and we are happy to have the newly formed St. John’s Brass Ensemble play for special services also.

In months where there is a fifth Sunday, we have youth Sunday.  Both worship services are led by the youth-as they read, serve as ushers and present the music for the day.

Every Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm there is Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer.

Once a month, on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, we meet for ‘The Gathering’, a contemporary praise and worship time in a relaxed setting.  St. John’s Praise Band, ‘The Key’ leads us in song and prayer.  Each month a guest speaker shares their faith story.

Sacraments

Holy Eucharist

If you are a baptized Christian we invite you to join with us in receiving the bread and wine.

Baptism

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.

Contact the rector for information or to schedule a Baptism.

Confirmation

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.

Those baptized as adults are also expected to make a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism in the presence of a bishop and to receive the laying on of hands.

The Bishop visits our church once a year and confirmation is done at that time.

Marriage

Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God.  In the Episcopal Church it is required that one, at least, of the parties must be a baptized Christian; that the ceremony be attested by at least two witnesses; and that the marriage conform to the laws of the State and the canons of this Church.

Contact the rector for information or to schedule a Wedding.

Ordination

Contact the rector for information.

Penance

The ministry of reconciliation, which has been committed by Christ to his Church, is exercised through the care each Christian has for others, through the common prayer of Christians assembled for public worship, and through the priesthood of the Church and its ministers declaring absolution.

The Reconciliation of a Penitent is available for all who desire it. It is not restricted to times of sickness. Confessions may be heard anytime and anywhere.

Contact the rector for private reconciliation.

Extreme unction (Last Rites)

In case of illness, contact the rector as soon as possible.
